In my current work, I use maps of stars and old shipping routes to the new world. I draw out a map (either earthly or heavenly) on each painting then highlight the paths that are available with each point representing destinations. In renaissance thinking, stars are thought to be a heavenly representation of our earthly bodies giving us a sense of direction. As my maps co-figure prominently in my paintings, they represent and suggest my ideas of destiny and preordained life destinations. I hope that my work questions the following: Can we switch our paths mid life? If we do, is the new path the one that is really pre-ordained? Moreover, stars represent each human soul giving the spark to life in every living thing. Do these heavenly bodies feed our souls? Provide us with dreams?"
